Making the move.

picasa.jpg

For those who read my last post know that I’m leaving the figure blogging to the pro’s and closing down mine, after my next figure arrives (Tuesday)

However I’ll still be taking photos and buying figures, and I plan on posting these images on Picasa.

Thanks again for reading, it has been fun.

Fate / Hollow Ataraxia – Saber Cybershot

sabra.jpg

I haven’t seen my figures since last month after putting them away in their boxes in my closet. It’s been cold outside lately, so we’ve turned on the heat which I’m affraid would turn my figures into “leaners.”

With that being said, I thought it’d be a good day to take a few out of their confinement and try out some new lighting / backgrounds. (And by good day I mean a day where I have absolutely nothing better to do but sit around ^^;)

I am aware the background + flowers don’t match Saber at all but oh well. The feeling I was trying to get was a mellow, dark feeling atmosphere. Again, I blame my Cybershot for auto-adjusting all my photos on the spot, as the Nikon would have been more accurate.

Anyway, do enjoy, I still need help on lighting!

You can kinda see scratches on her face -_-;

Something about this one..

I might be posting up my other shots of Arisugawa later, but I’m having second thoughts.

Fate / Hollow Ataraxia Saber (raw)

Camera’s finally back home so I tried to find some time to snap some shots. Ended up going outside, such a breezy cool day should not be wasted!

I got home rather late today, so I’m saving the review for when I have time to do a proper photoshoot. Though I’m almost certain everyones convinced already to get this figure, since there’s plenty of reviews already out. Not that editing would make my pictures any good at all, but I didn’t have time for that either.

I didn’t try to capture all the mistakes, I just wanted to show the figure in all its beautiful glory. I’ll do an outdoor shoot probably for every figure I get in the future. It was a lot of fun, and the sun really brings out the tones…at least it looks that way on my screen ^^

Anyway, you can cut to the chase and view the set if you want.

(No idea why the light was like this in the room, but it didn’t turn out as dark as I had thought it would.)

I love the bamboo mat though, it’s really classy imo ^^.

(Bamboo shelter for her goodies!)

The accessories I received with Saber had some..mediocre paint application, but isn’t all that terrible.

(My neighbors probably thought I was weird for leaning her over for this shot..)

Here you can see the nasty rip in her right hand. This is the only issue I wasn’t pleased with, aside from the noticeable mold lines and rogue paint / glue app.

(Such a great figure, despite all the little problems that came with mine.)

Perhaps I was just the unlucky one to get this figure, but…every figure needs a home, so she’s staying. I definitely recommend this figure to whoever’s interested, though it truly has changed my views of big brand consistency. Though odd’s are unlikely that you’ll end up with one as bad as mine. Overall I can’t help but love this figure. I’ve had a change of heart over the few days that I have had her, and I’ve decided the flaws are overshadowed by the excellent sculpt and lovely little features.

Hopefully I’ll have some indoor photos before the weekend.

Again, for better pictures and reviews, check out Danny Choo’s and Super Rats.

Dirty Figures? (figure defects)

Update: I’m just going to keep the figure. The shop charges for return shipping and as well as a restocking fee, so my deal wouldn’t have been much of a deal. For those wondering, I bought the figure from www.tisinc99.com it’s a good store, though I’m speculating the figures condition corresponds to the price…but anyway the glue looks like http://tenra.at.webry.info/200708/article_23.html except in only two noticeable spots.

I’ve had an unusually unlucky week so far. I’m not sure if this is a common thing with figures or not but my Alter Saber came today and its looks a bit… scuffed? Even literally 2 day shipping for the price of standard shipping can’t make up for the flaws of the figure. There’s several spots where theres black smearing (most rubbed off, the smears on her face aren’t coming off) and some thin blotches of glue on her stomach and fore arm.

Now I’m a reasonable person, I can accept the blotches (even though my Alter Meg figure has absolutely no flaw at all) but the main thing that is getting to me is her hand. It looks like they lazily pulled her off the cast, or runner. There’s a pretty big rip in her hand, it has some excess plastic coming out of the edges..

I know I’m probably expecting too much, but I paid a pretty big amount, even if it was a deal. Maybe it’s a rule of thumb that you shouldn’t get figures this late after their release date? From afar the figure looks great, the sculpt is fantastic, and there’s not much of a problem with leaning. The hands don’t hold hold her accessories too well, but I’m assuming thats just the plastic responding to its age.

Can anyone explain this to me? I’m disappointed, and I’m not sure if I should ship it back or not if it’s common with figures. (I don’t know what to expect really, this is only my third anime figure) I honestly feel like I got something from the caboose of the assembly line, and they just threw it in the box to ship.

I don’t have my camera on me, but I’ll probably have pictures by tomorrow night. I was not expecting this from Alter at all. If these issues aren’t manufacturing defects then I’m gonna return her, and probably never buy from the shop again. I guess I’ll update this with a header picture whenever I get the chance to snap a few shots of my saber.

Thanks for any help!

Next Figure

saberava.jpg

I’m pretty sure the figure has been out for a while, but I finally found her for a good price! ^^

In case you didn’t know, it’s Saber from Fate/Hollow Ataraxia…(Haven’t seen any of the anime, there seems to be more than one Fate so if anyone could explain it to me, that would be great!)

If you’re still curious, head over to Danny Choo’s site, he’s got an awesome review with tons of nice pictures.

Can’t wait to get this!
