Making the move.

picasa.jpg

For those who read my last post know that I’m leaving the figure blogging to the pro’s and closing down mine, after my next figure arrives (Tuesday)

However I’ll still be taking photos and buying figures, and I plan on posting these images on Picasa.

Thanks again for reading, it has been fun.

Persona 3: Mitsuru Kirijo 1/8th Scale Alter

alterkirijo.jpg

Woo not much time to type today, but I just found out about Alter’s rendition of Mitsuru Kirijo, one of my favorite characters. I’ll edit more to the post later today.

Edit:

So about the figure, comparing it to the Koto version that I have, she looks a lot thicker around the midsection, a lot more realistic IMO. Though being so used to how my rendition looks, ALTER’s looks almost too thick. It doesn’t look bad at all actually, the legs seem thicker, which is a plus for me.

One thing I think really makes this figure stand out from the Koto version (aside from the more realistic wrinkles and movement in the skirt) is her hair. We all know Koto’s had some funky stylish hair, but Alter has a knack for awesome hair sculpts, so this one is no exception.

Overall I believe Alter just one-upped Kotobukiya, but that’s no surprise honestly, after seeing the price difference of about $20. I’m considering buying both this version and as well as Alter’s Aegis if I can find her.

Right now she’s going for $51.99 at KNC, and will be out in July.

Persona 3: Mitsuru Kirijo Photo Shoot

mitsuruheader1.jpg

My Mitsuru Kirijo figure came in around last week, and has been looking great on my desk ever since. My weekend opened up finally, and so I decided to take some pictures.

I never got the chance to get bigger pieces of construction paper, so I had to wing it with some of the smaller pieces I had laying around. took me a few tries but I got it somewhat seamless. I’m still working on getting the lighting down. The problem with this set is that the light is too harsh from the left side. You’ll find that I tried to hide majority of my mistakes with photoshop, which probably made them look worse. Anyway, I had fun taking these pictures, so try to enjoy them for me ^^; Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Now, to the review-mobile!

pic1.jpg
(The first picture I took of the set. I felt bad using it again here but it was just a plain favorite.)

The figure sculpt is fantastic. Though I have little experience with PVC figures, I can tell the quality is top notch. Compared with my Meg figure, the hair seam fits remarkably better. Little details such as the lines on her shirt, and the wrinkles on her skirt are a great example of craftmanship. What I like about this figure is that it doesn’t try hard to be “sexy” at all, rather quite the opposite. She’s petite in practically every way, (well, in anime terms) and yet still generates an attractive appeal that is realistic. I really love this approach to characters, they’re more believable than the fair amount of over the top voluptuous figures on the market.

I would also like to mention the weapon + extra part sculpting is also very well done. Her hands hold the weapons with ease. But… more on that later.

pic2.jpg
(The hair sculpt is also brilliant. At first I found it a bit strange, as many would agree it does look somewhat like an octopus ^^;)

I really thought the logo on her strap was a nice touch. Extremely crisp and beats having just a plain strap, although I know that’s how its supposed to be. Either way, it’s a great little detail.

pic3.jpg
(Check out the sweet buckle, and that oh-so-nasty scratch!)

Ok so the scratch isn’t that bad, and I’ve already gotten over it. It’s really not worth the complaint because it’s so small, but I’m writing about it anyway. The only flaw on my beautiful figure is that scratch. Otherwise it’d be perfect. Good thing the figure looks good in every way but this. I didn’t really capture it well on camera.

pic4.jpg
(Yes, a pantsu shot. (o’;'o) )

I’m not really focusing on the pantsu, although that’s probably what you’re assuming. But I’m addressing the only issue I heard from Phamolous…which was the seam line between her upper body and lower body. It’s not a big deal to me, I’ve only taken her skirt off the day I got it to inspect the seam, and today to take pictures of it. The skirt covers the seam quite nicely, but I’d say it wouldn’t be TOO noticeable if you carefully push the parts together hard. Though I realize the parts wouldn’t really lock, so a small seam will be there.

pic5.jpg
(I thought the Go board would be a nice change ^^)

I had my Go board laying around in the room, so I figured I’d take it out after years of not being played, and give it a purpose again.

pic6.jpg
(Mitsuru comes with a neat stand that holds all of her accessories ..except her sword..-_- unless theres a way to store it, let me know!)

As mentioned earlier, her weapons are fantastic, and well sculpted. Her hands actually hold the gun, and doesn’t use a peg to lock in place. The idea of the stand holding her accessories is great, though pointless if it doesn’t hold EVERYTHING. Either way, I haven’t used the stand.. it’s just plain bulky and plastic-ish.

Overall, I love this figure. For the price, it can’t be beat. It’s great that Kotobukiya’s getting distributed in America by Diamond Comics now (I think) which should cut down prices of importing. Sculpting is great, the paint work is great, minus the nick on her boot. The accessories give you choices of how you want to display her. If you can get over the tiny seam line (if you want her cast off) then you should consider this figure. I honestly know nothing about this character, but it would be a great addition to any otaku’s PVC army.

I got this lovely figure from knc.gif
You can order her at most of the links I have at the left, but I recommend KNC. (Last I checked Mitsuru was out of stock, but you should email just in case)

Figure Shooting Soon

srmthfg.jpg

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but school’s overwhelming ^^;

I am happy to say the camera is back home, so I may be taking some pictures of Mitsuru soon. (I’m thinking about doing a full length review if pictures come out any good) I’ll probably have to go out and get some big sheets of construction paper, and a better lamp Friday. Also looking for some small scale pieces that would fit with the figure, much like Super Rats’ sunflowers.

Warning : Rant Below

It’s been years since I received this piece of s*** hand-me-down “computer”…Within those few years I suppose it became even more s***ty. I just bought Garry’s Mod 10 off Steam, and behold…nothing. Nada, zilch. IT DOESN’T work. Now, please excuse my bitching, I’m just so annoyed of this computer right now, I’m amazed I’m even able to run Counter Strike Source.. Couple a crap computer with wireless internet and what you have is probably the worst, most inefficient, unreliable rig known to mankind. Ok, so it’s not THAT bad, and so I don’t know much about computers, but I know enough, not to expect random hour glasses and lag spikes while doing the most simple tasks.

End of Rant

On lighter news, I tried the Itunes store for the first time, and I’m quite satisfied. The downloads were pretty fast, considering my wireless connection. I bought the wonderful Light Grenades , the latest album from Incubus. (Review worthy, whenever I have time I suppose–not sure if anyone reads those posts)

I also bought an episode of Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, and Samurai 7. I’ve always been a fan of SRMTHFG, but I took a chance at Samurai 7. It turned out alright I guess, I’m not a fan of dubbed animes but its refreshing sometimes to see dubs done right..I should probably watch it again before I make that assumption.

Next figure

After contacting Kid Nemo’s excellent customer service, I was surprised to find out the Mitsuru Kirijo figure was already in stock! So I decided to go ahead and place an order. Hopefully she’ll be in sometime next week.

Right now I’m looking at cheapo wallpapers I could use as a backdrop for any future phototaking ^^; Though I might have better luck just sticking to plain construction paper.

Persona 3: Mitsuru Kirijo 1/7 Scale Figure

mitsuru.gif

To be honest I’ve never heard of Persona 3, the game this character is from, until recently. I ran into this figure a while back while browsing through Kid Nemo. A few seconds scrolling through the pictures and I became an instant fan, and it’s now on my buy list. The character is beautiful, with a simple but classy design, it’s hard to pass her up. Knowing the figure’s made by Kotobukiya, quality will insue. Just check out these stellar pictures from Phamolous. The paintjob seems quality! The only thing he mentioned was the parts creating mold lines under her cast offable skirt..But at this point it’s not enough for me to change my mind, since she’s gonna be cast-on pretty much 24/7 ^^;

mitsuru.jpg

The pose itself is somewhat static, but implies plenty of motion, especially the hair. At first I wasn’t quite sure what to think of the hair, but it grew on me…the pink fading colors are brilliant. The interchangable parts are also a good bonus, it’s fun to have extra parts when it comes to figures. All in all I’m looking forward to purchasing Mitsuru, which should be out sometime soon. There’s too many figures that I want right now. Kureha and Mitsuru are both on my preorder list for now. My instock list would include Shii and Mirei from Yamashita’s series, and the Haruhi from Max Factory.. (that is, if I can find her for a fair price)

You can preorder Mitsuru Kirijo here.
